Bagpipe Fundraiser

Kevin started bagpipe lessons back in June after we went to a Scottish Festival at Thanksgiving Point. He got talking to a guy there and decided he wanted to learn. He started lessons with his friend Carl, and wanted to make sure that he didn't let them slide after we moved. He found a bagpipe band here in Leicester and he joined them. He goes ever Wednesday and they teach him to play. Once he gets good enough to play with them he will start performing. They perform a lot, usually a couple times a month. A few weekends ago the band had a fundraiser concert at a primary school. It was also a dance, it was like a British version of a barn dance. They had a buffet dinner too. It was a lot of fun, and we didn't get home until 1 o'clock in the morning!  I only took a couple pictures, but here they are.

This was during their performance, the band played in a circle and they had girls doing Scottish dancing around the circle.
This is the pipe major in the band. He actually is going to be playing the pipes in the new Sherlock Holmes movie where Jude Law gets married.
The band has a range of ages. These young boys are only about 8-10 years old. There is also a man who is 75 in the band.

We had a great time at the concert, and it fuelled Kevin's desire to play the pipes. He practices regularly and I would not be surprised if he was playing with the band soon!

This is hilarious! I had no idea Kevin was in to bagpipes...or maybe you had mentioned it to me. Can't remember now. Your flat looks nice and homey, perfect for the two of you.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE pipe music. I checked into it a few years ago and the pretend thingy they have you start on never materialized. Way to go Kevin. Practice and you can play Scottland the Brave and Amazing Grace at my funeral!!
